A Celebration of Water

Welcoming April on the West Coast

The United Nations marked World Water Day on March 22 as a celebration of water and gender equality — and what better way to bring that home than this gorgeous shot of  Átl'ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound?

The photo was taken by Lions Bay resident, hiker and photographer Chris Dunn from high above the Village, atop Sleepless Night trail.

Later this month, the health of this body of water will become the focus as Lions Bay hosts the annual Howe Sound Community Forum (HSCF).

The HSCF is a gathering that has taken place since the year 2000, with an intent to provide a forum for local governments, Regional Districts and First Nations from around the Sound the opportunity to discuss, maintain and enhance the economic, environmental, cultural and social well-being of the place we call home.

Long-time resident Ruth Simons, in her role as Executive Director of the Howe Sound Biosphere Region Initiative Society, will convene the forum at the Village Hall on April 17.

Attendance is limited, but The Watershed will report on discussions held and progress achieved.
