A Note of Appreciation to Watershed Readers

This morning, on the cusp of what is expected to be another possibly tumultuous council meeting, we'd like to send a brief note of thanks out to all our wonderful readers.

For the past week or so, we've been struggling with a behind-the-scenes tech glitch that meant some online commenters were appearing as anonymous site members.

When we launched The Watershed last January, we envisioned it as a place where all the delights and concerns of Lions Bay and environs could be celebrated and discussed. But we also saw it as an online home for critical thinking, reasoned discourse and the exchange of ideas. However, as the downside to online discourse is so often anonymous sniping, we made it part of our policy to allow only site members the ability to comment, in order to encourage people to share their thoughts respectfully, and show the courage of their conviction by commenting using their own names.

When the glitch happened last week, several completely legitimate commenters had their thoughts removed, when they appeared on the site anonymously. This glitch has now been hunted down, slain, and buried in an unmarked grave. And those of us behind the scenes who have been struggling to ensure that every voice is heard in this extremely heated election season thank all our readers – and our commenters – for your patience.
