Smoky skies improve; danger rating still high

While predicted rains over the weekend failed to materialize in any measurable quantity, smoky sky conditions improved enough for air quality warnings to be dropped in most coastal sections of the province.
As of Monday morning, BC Wildfire Service reports that 52 of the 144 fires still burning across the province are out of control. Conditions in the Sea to Sky Corridor have vastly improved since last week, as there are no longer any active fires burning between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler.
A small region south of the Whistler area is still rated at 'Extreme' in terms of fire risk, but most of the northern end of the Sea To Sky is rated 'High', and the whole region south of Squamish is considered 'Moderate'.
There are 39 active wildfires in the Coastal Fire Centre (in which Lions Bay is situated), with most of the 16 fires still out of control in this region burning north of Whistler.
No measurable level of precipitation is predicted for the upcoming week.
