It's been a busy week for members of Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR).

When a house caught fire at 3 a.m. on Thanksgiving Monday, LBFR with the support of members of the West Vancouver Fire Department, spent most of the day battling to keep the surrounding forest interface and a number of nearby homes from going up too.

By the time firefighters were on scene just after 4 a.m., the burning home was fully engulfed and could not be saved. So under the direction of Captain Maddie Gildenhuys, they threw all efforts into preventing the fire from spreading.

It was an intense, but ultimately successful effort.

This Saturday, as a way to mark Fire Prevention Week, members of LBFR will take on a less arduous challenge: running a barbecue at the Village Hall. Residents can enjoy free hotdogs as well as picking up some serious fire prevention tips from the experts.

The event runs from 1 —3 p.m. at the Village Hall.

An excellent opportunity to meet some of Lions Bay's dedicated fire fighters and show our appreciation!
