Update: Tunnel Bluffs Fire Declared Out

Fire kept to under one hectare in size

BC Wildfire has put out the Tunnel Bluffs fire. There are no restrictions to entering the area.

Update from the editor:

As of 11 p.m. August 30, BC Wildfire reports the blaze has been downgraded to 'being held'. There are four stages of fire ratings: out of control, being held, under control and out. The service now is listing the fire as human-caused. Five fires continue to burn between Lions Bay and Whistler, three of which are out of control.

A fire located very near Tunnel Bluffs trail is currently rated as out of control, according to BC Wildfire Services.


The fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon, with the latest update coming in shortly before 5 p.m.


BC Wildfire Services is pinpointing the fire at Yahoo Creek, which runs near the Tunnel Bluffs trail, approximately three kilometres north of Lions Bay.


There are no reports yet as to the suspected cause of the fire.


Fire crews have been notified and a helicopter has been seen dropping water on the site.


There are currently 138 wildfires burning across British Columbia, with 55 of those fires burning out of control. 36 wildfires are burning in the Coastal Region
