Atmospheric river brings wet start to 2026

Living on the windward side of a mountain in a temperate rainforest means foggy, dampish winters are almost a given. However, the series of atmospheric rivers coupled with the mild Pacific air mass that is blowing through has meant the snow level has moved way up and the highways, byways and local ditches are mostly filled with running water.
The risk of avalanches in the back country and on ski hills along the Sea to Sky this weekend is considered moderate according to Avalanche Canada.
Across Western Canada, record high temperatures are expected in the coming week before cold temperatures are ushered in later in the month. Which means for the time being, it's water, water...everywhere.
