Friends lay memorial wreath

On the first anniversary of the Battani Creek landslide, a group of 13 friends and family members recently gathered together at Brunswick Beach to honour the memory of Barbara and David Enns.
The tragic loss of these active Lions Bay community members on December 14, 2024 is still keenly felt by family, friends and neighbours. Earlier this year, Councillor Ron McLaughlin told Council he is interested in setting up a Memorial Park near the spot where Magnesia Creek enters the Sound.
When asked this week about the progress of formally establishing the memorial park, Chief Administrative Officer Ross Blackwell said he has not received direction from Council as yet. Blackwell, who also filled the role of Director of Operations while the Village remained in a State of Local Emergency after the landslide last year, said he expects to hear "soon-ish".
McLaughlin confirms that he has had a study group working on the project. "I have a resolution to address the creation of a memorial lined up to bring up at the next Council meeting," he told The Watershed this week.
Memories remain very fresh for the Enns' friends and neighbours.
"Barb and Dave were very special friends, and not a day goes by when I don't think of them," says Barb's long-time friend and running partner Rose Dudley. "Our lives are poorer for their loss, but how privileged I and many others feel to have known them."
