Abandoned Vehicle Towed

'Traffic hazard' left locked and parked across centre line for hours

A vehicle left parked in the middle of Bayview Avenue was towed late Sunday afternoon after being abandoned for several hours. The vehicle, a small Ford station wagon, was left locked and parked across the centre line in above the intersection with Stewart Road, below the double curve near the top of Bayview.

The vehicle appeared sometime after mid-day Sunday. Bayview Road is heavily used by hikers both walking and driving up to the Sunset trailhead, and several village residents expressed concern that the vehicle represented a traffic hazard to both hikers and drivers.

"The main problem is the location where it has been abandoned," said Bayview resident Douglas Miller. "People come around those corners at fairly high speed at times."

Mitchell's Towing attended the scene around 5 p.m. "Likely going to find out in a day or two that it was reported stolen," said the truck driver, who declined to leave his name. "It was locked, so someone's left it here deliberately."
