Another Fruitful Summer

Hikers (and lemons) squeezed for a good cause

After another hot summer in Lions Bay, one entrepreneurial young local has turned the profits of his lemonade labours into tangy support for Lions Bay Search and Rescue (LBSAR).

In the summer of 2024, local brothers Harry and Archie ran a lemonade stand at the Sunset Trailhead, raising more than $400 that they donated to Lions Bay Trailblazers to help with trail maintenance.

This year, Archie more than doubled last year’s success, and his Lions Bay Lemonade Stand raised a very impressive $872.24 for LBSAR.

“Lions Bay SAR is grateful for Archie's incredible community spirit,” LBSAR Manager Brent Calkin said. “On the hottest days, his lemonade stand kept hikers refreshed and may have prevented SAR responses triggered by dehydration and electrolyte loss, which is a major contributor to most summer rescues.”

Operating almost every weekend through July, August and September — and ensuring he left no trace at the trailhead — Archie squeezed more than 700 lemons to produce almost 40 gallons of delicious lemonade that was appreciated by thirsty hikers.

“I’m really glad that we were able to raise so much for such a worthy cause,” said Archie. “Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by the stand - we hope to see you again next year!”

Archie would especially like to thank IGA Dundarave for supporting the stand with a generous product donation, and Persia Foods in West Vancouver for their discount.

Archie you are truly an inspiration to residents in Lions Bay and no doubt the many hikers who enjoyed your lemonade were very appreciative. You go above and beyond, as we have also seen by your participation at the yearly Bird Friendly events. Thank you for your fundraising efforts over the years. Cheers to you!

Archie’s thoughtfulness, the hard. work he put into raising money for SAR and the relief he provided for dozens of dehydrated hikers is awe inspiring.

With all the angst caused by our lack of parking spaces in the village, the work that Archie put into raising money will leave a lasting impression on many a thirsty visitor..

Well done Archie .
