Breaking: Live Hydro Wires Down in Creek

Writer: kc dyerkc dyer

Crosscreek, Centre Roads Closed

Live hydro wires have come down into Harvey Creek this morning as a result of the high winds produced by the 'bomb cyclone' currently churning in the Pacific. Both Crosscreek and Centre Roads are blocked as Village Works crews assist Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR) to ensure the safety of local residents.

LBFR Captain Mattie Gildenhuys is on scene with her team, and says that traffic is closed to both vehicles and foot passengers until the situation is resolved. All residents who live above the Village Hall are able to leave the village heading northbound, but those returning will not be allowed past the barricades.

The Village Office has reportedly been evacuated for the duration of the emergency.

BC Hydro is said to be enroute, but crews are stretched to the limit by fallout from the storm. Fire crews on the scene have been told the delay could last several hours.

Stay tuned to The Watershed for updates.

Update: 11:55 a.m. Hydro trucks on scene.

Update: 1:20 p.m. Roads have reopened.
