One hundred years ago this week, the people of Britannia Beach chose their first ever Copper Queen. And this Sunday, live music, a craft fair and an art walk will mark Britannia Day.

Fire Truck Bike Parade

Events begin with the Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department leading kids (12 and under) on a lap of Britannia Village behind their restored historic 1951 Mercury fire truck. Sign-up for the event begins at 10 a.m., and all the kids who join in will be eligible for prizes including free Britannia Mine Museum entry and Kawartha Dairy ice cream.

Craft Fair and Art Walk

Beginning at noon, the Sea to Sky Gallery will be showcasing the work of local artists throughout the Village, and a Crafts Fair in the Community Hall will feature the wares of over a dozen local makers and vendors from noon until 6 p.m.

Live Music Throughout the Day

A Village stage will showcase live music from BC guitar legend WiL along with sets from Jacob Dryden and Monik Mascias and DJ Dana. Local favourite DJ Feel the Love is set to play the afterparty at The Sound Public House beginning at 8 p.m.

Epic Media's Paul Done says that last year’s Britannia Village grand opening day was a memorable event, and organizers wanted to bring that energy back this year. "In a broader sense, the purpose of Britannia Day is to tie the history of the Britannia Mine townsite and its annual Copper Queen celebration to the present and future of what has become a fast-growing and vibrant Sea to Sky Community."

All daytime events are free of charge, and local businesses will be offering discounts, free drop-in studio classes, and other special features. Find out more at britanniavillage.ca.
