Gran Fondo cycles through first thing, Firefighters' Day begins at 2
The Annual Gran Fondo takes place tomorrow, with cyclists riding from downtown Vancouver to Whistler along the Sea to Sky.
While most of the riders are expected to cruise past the Village by 10 a.m., the finish line in Whistler does not close until 3 p.m., which means that travellers heading north should expect traffic disruptions for much of the day.
Organizers are telling drivers to expect significant delays and changing traffic patterns in both directions between West Vancouver and Whistler from approximately 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with most (but not all) of the traffic heading northbound.
Between West Vancouver and Squamish, lane shifts, counterflow traffic, reduced speeds, temporary traffic stoppages and some areas of restricted access should be expected from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A full list of traffic advisories is HERE.
Here in the Village, Saturday afternoon is a chance to support our local firefighters, as Lions Bay Fire Rescue holds its annual fundraising event.
Firefighters' Day is a long-standing tradition, and this year festivities begin at 2 p.m. down at Lions Bay Beach. Fun for the whole family will include games, live music, a silent auction, raffle tickets, and a beer garden. As always, proceeds from the raffle help support specialized equipment and training for Lions Bay Fire Rescue. The event runs through the afternoon and evening until 9 p.m.
