Popular series makes a scene at gravel pit

Lions Bay had a chance to add a little local glamour to a popular American television series when a scene from the CBS drama 'WATSON' was filmed here this week.
In this latest retelling of the story first penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, Sherlock Holmes' friend and sleuthing partner takes the form of a contemporary doctor. The title character is played by American actor Morris Chestnut, in a medical procedural that producers say offers a "mix of medicine and mystery". The character of Sherlock, supposedly killed off last season by his arch-nemesis Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls, is played by Robert Carlyle.
This week's film shoot was perhaps intended to show the sketchier side of Dr Watson's investigations, as it took place in the gravel pit.
Village film liaison Karen Jeffry confirms that crews have been on site for three days, preparing for and then clearing away after a scene shot on Thursday night. This is the first local film shoot for the year, with more expected. Jeffrey says the Village receives one or two enquiries each month for projects as diverse as commercials, television series and movies.
Residents will remember the filming of Netflix movie 'Remarkably Bright Creatures' at Lions Bay Store and Cafe last year, starring Sally Field and Colm Meany. That show is slated to be released in May. And a reality show filmed last summer at the home of Victoria Rogers and Kim Mailey netted the Village a $100,000 donation from the family and production company Blink 49.
This week's one-day shoot proved to be much lower-key, not even requiring Council approval under the parameters of the Village's film policy.
Season Two of 'WATSON' is currently airing on CBS.
