Rainforest Racers' Report

Rose Dudley shares her thoughts on bittersweet day

The Enns/Hunt family and friend at the Vancouver Sun Run, April 27, 2025.

This year's Sun Run, dedicated to David and Barbara Enns, drew a crowd of  27 Lions Bay participants along with  24 members of the Enns/Hunt family.

Barbara had been an enthusiastic member of the Lions Bay Rainforest Racers – formerly Ramblers – since its inception over 15 years ago. So every step of the way, her absence was sorely felt by us all, and many tears were shed.

We wore our shirts, displaying Barb and Dave's photo, with such pride and will wear them for all future Sun Runs.

Not only the shirts were worn in memory of Barb and Dave. Jody wore a treasured angel pendant that had been given to her Mom by her Dad on a sailing adventure years ago in Panama.

Miraculously, the little angel was found amongst the tons of  debris following the slide. Later on, Barb's journal, which documented the story of the gift and the joy that it had brought her, was discovered.

Now, Jody keeps the angel in her kitchen, seeing it as a symbol of her parents' watch over the family.

Thanks are expressed to: Richard at Griffin House (Screenprinting-richard@griffinhouse.com) for our shirts designed with such dedication, patience and love. To Trudi Luethy for, as usual, bearing our iconic Lions Bay flag. To Jan Schneider for, year after year, standing on the street to cheer us on. To all participants who were there, proudly wearing the Memorial shirt for this unforgettable event. To all those who provided such delicious contributions for the after-gathering.

Sympathy is expressed to those who had to withdraw at the last minute. Brenda Broughton who was grieving the loss of her sister, and Deirdre McNeil, Mike Porter and Ron McLaughlin due to ill health.

Congratulations go to Fiona Fourie and her daughter, Ashleigh Kish, who completed the race in 1:05, Jody Enns Dyer in 1:12  and Tom Caspersen who, despite a recent kidney transplant, crossed the finish line at an impressive 1:17.

The team wore specially designed memorial shirts.

In my article on the Sun Run, I humbly apologize to Chantal Knaak for failing to mention that she completed the race in 1.05 - an amazing result! Well done, Chantal! See you next year.
