"Socktober" is Here

Toasty toes for all this winter

How toasty are your toes right now?

ree

Let's face it, when you live on the West Coast, cold wet feet are a frequent problem.

Imagine how much worse it would be if your feet were never warm or dry?

Socktober is your chance to help others who may not have access to the clean, dry socks that you enjoy. According to Squamish's Helping Hands society, as local emergency shelters reach capacity, this donation drive "aims to provide warmth and dignity" to those in need. The goal is to reach 1,000 pairs of socks donated by month's end.

Squamish Helping Hands staff were forced to turn away 42 individuals looking for temporary shelter in September, according to sources at the Under One Roof emergency shelter. The shelter is open every day of the year, but is currently full. There is a long waitlist for transitional housing in the same building. And the weather is only going to get worse.

Here's where you come in.

Have a pair of clean, new socks to donate? The Watershed has your back. Drop us an email, or leave a note below in the comments, and we will come collect your donations from your door, and deliver them into the Helping Hands of those running Socktober in Squamish. If you are a knitter, newly knitted creations are welcome, too.

You can also donate cash to the cause HERE.

Let's make sure everyone has a chance to have warm, dry feet this winter.
