Former mayor Ron McLaughlin sworn in Tuesday evening

Long-time resident and former mayor Ron McLaughlin was sworn in as a Village Councillor at a special meeting on June 24.
McLaughlin, who has 11 years of service as both a councillor and mayor in Lions Bay and has lived in the Village for 46 years, was acclaimed to the position after the resignation of former councillor Marcus Reuter in February.
The brief ceremony was held in Council chambers before a standing-room only crowd, and supporters cheered as Lidstone & Company law firm partner Sara Dubinsky swore in McLaughlin. Mayor Ken Berry acknowledged McLaughlin for stepping forward and congratulated him on the new position. McLaughlin thanked Mayor and Council for the welcome and members of the gallery for their support.
McLaughlin's oath of office, and the accompanying signing of the Code of Conduct were the only items on the agenda for the evening's special meeting.
The next meeting of Council will be a Committee of the Whole, scheduled for July 8 at 6 p.m. The final regularly scheduled meeting of Council before Council takes their annual break for the month of August will be held July 22.

It was lovely to witness the warm welcome given to Ron by Mayor Berry and the other Counsellors. I feel it bodes well for future Council meetings.
