Warm Winter Clothes Needed

'Socktober' just the beginning

ree

Squamish Helping Hands Society (SHHS) is hoping you take a moment this holiday season to clean out your closets.

They are looking for new and gently-used clothing in adult sizes to help some local folks stay warm this winter.

SHHS Volunteer Coordinator Kesley Burke-Gray reports that nearly 2100 pairs of socks were donated this fall, more than doubling the 1,000-pair goal during the recent 'Socktober' event. Burke-Grey says that her team were so grateful for the response, and that every pair was put to good use.

Now that the weather has gotten colder, the folks at SHHS have teamed up with a few local businesses to make donating winter gear easier than ever.

Helping Hands donation boxes can now be found at:

The team is looking for coats, boots, sweaters and warm winter clothing including mittens, gloves and hats.

If you have new, or freshly-laundered, gently used winter clothing you'd like to donate, just drop The Watershed an email at editor@lionsbaywatershed.ca, and we will swing by to collect your donations, and deliver them to the Helping Hands folks in Squamish.

As we learned earlier this week from our amazing local Knitting Group, newly knitted creations are welcome, too.

You can also donate cash to the cause HERE.

Burke-Grey says the team is grateful for every donation. "Thank you for helping us look out for one another."
