Water Giveaway a Great Success

Still a chance to snag a free bottle

Last weekend's Great Water Giveaway was a big success, with 300 bottles of free water distributed to community members to set aside in case of emergency. But if you missed out on collecting one for your family, don't despair.

According to event organizer (and Emergency Program Coordinator) Mary Brown, about a pallet of water bottles remained at the end of Saturday's event. Those bottles have now been transported to the Community Recycle Depot at the Public Works yard in lower Kelvin Grove, and residents dropping off their recyclables this weekend will be invited to take away a bottle.

Saturday's event was a success for the Emergency Social Services (ESS) team, too.

"We had a number of people leave their names to get more information on becoming an ESS member," added Brown. ESS is always looking for volunteers, and Brown says she is keeping her fingers crossed.

She also gave a shout-out to Lions Bay Store and Cafe manager Lynne Jacobs, who supported the event by ordering and storing the water, and allowing ESS the use of the parking lot for the giveaway.
