A Well-Baked Success
Fundraiser already helping those in need

After the devastating earthquake that struck Colombia in August, Lions Bay residents Catalina Lopez-Correa and Maria Escobar Trujillo knew they had to do something to help.
Both women hail from Colombia, and were heart-broken to see the scenes of devastation.
"Overall, the scale of the disaster was enormous," said Lopez-Correa. "Hundreds of thousands of people were affected, along with critical infrastructure."
By late September, the pair had rallied support from more than a dozen local bakers, and on the 19th they held a festive bake sale outside their home on Mountain Drive.

One of the bakers, Mountain Drive resident Tyler James, even produced a special label for the 20 loaves of home-baked sourdough bread he donated to the event.
In addition to James' highly-sought-after bread, cookies, squares, tarts, cupcakes and more were soon snapped up by local residents and other passers-by.
After all the money was collected, the total funds raised were $2,280.
Lopez-Correa says the money was donated under the name of 'Lions Bay Community' to the Colombian Canadian Association of BC. The group then forwarded all donations straight to Colombia, where they are being used to assist struggling families, and to rebuild schools and hospitals
"We are deeply grateful for all the generosity and support of the Lions Bay community," said Lopez-Correa.
Donations can still be made to the Colombian Canadian Association via the QR code, below.
