If you're looking for a little atmosphere when getting your ears (or anything else) pierced, look no further.

Squamish Piercing & Jewelry Co. has recently opened in downtown Squamish, and it brings a whole new look to the piercing experience.

Since the company opened in May, they've received over 100 five-star reviews, and co-owner Jon Gawiuk says the response from the community has been incredible.

"This is not a typical jewelry store or piercing studio," said Gawiuk. "The space was built to feel more like a one-of-a-kind local destination, with custom design work, rock walls, unique displays, jewelry, butterflies, natural history pieces, and a very detailed, curated environment."

Gawiuk co-owns the shop with his partner Cory Jennings, who has been piercing professionally for 13 years. Gawiuk's focus is on stocking and displaying the store's wares through the partners' sister-company, West Coast Body Jewelry.

"Our focus is on creating a dedicated piercing and jewelry experience, rather than offering tattooing or other services," Gawiuk said. He added that their business is built around safe piercings, quality jewelry, and helping clients choose the right pieces for their anatomy and style.

Both business partners live in Squamish, and Gawiuk said he felt there was room for their unique vision in the booming municipality. "Squamish did not have much available locally for that kind of specialized jewelry experience, so it made sense to build it here in the community we already live in and care about."

Jennings says he insists on a clean, safe, precise piercing experience for clients, with careful placement, quality jewelry, and clear aftercare guidance. Initial piercings are done with implant-grade titanium, although other jewelry is available in the shop.

There's a Lions Bay connection, too, as Gawiuk is son-in-law to long-time Village resident (and former Squamish bookseller) Jane Moloughney.

LOVE and miss Jane’s daughter, Kate Mologhney, who grew up in mythical Brunswick Beach. She is the kindest soul with the biggest heart. Just lovely! She hung out with my kids, reading books and acting out fairytales in my backyard forest for hours; memories of them building lego kingdoms in our playroom and beachy afternoons at LBBP. What an amazingly creative and kind person with a mega watt smile that could brighten a room! She went into nursing, which makes sense. Great family!
