Happy St. Paddy's Day...and more!

Add a little fire to your celebrations

All this rain guarantees March 17 will be a green one this year, at least.

As the day falls on a Tuesday this year, most of the green beer was consumed last weekend, but for those still looking to celebrate the saint who allegedly drove the snakes out of Ireland, Greta Bar (50 West Cordova) in Vancouver is hosting a St. Patrick's Day Party.

On the North Shore, Seymour's Pub at 720 Old Lillooet Road in North Vancouver is celebrating the day with Irish stew, green beer and Guinness on tap.

Reservations at (604) 904-8778.

However, the biggest party on the North Shore will be found at Ambleside Park beginning at 4 p.m. this evening, and there won't be a scoop of Irish stew in sight.

Instead, North Shore residents will be celebrating upcoming Nowruz with the annual Fire Festival, a precursor to Persian New Year, which officially arrives on March 20.

The event runs from 4—10 p.m., and if you plan to attend, best leave the car at home, as parking is limited to make room for market stalls, celebratory bonfires, and live performances. The District of West Vancouver says to expect 13th Street between Marine Drive and Ambleside Park and Bellevue Avenue between 13th Street and 14th Street to be closed for the duration of the event.

A busy March 17. Happy Nowruz and Slainte!
