Is it time to raise your voice?

According to a recent survey, more than 50 Village residents are keen on taking part in a local choir, and the team at Lions Bay Arts (LBA) has a plan in place to make it happen.

LBA treasurer Leslie Nolin says that when her team took the temperature of the community back in 2025, the most interest was directed at food art, painting, choir, garden art and ceramics. LBA has already introduced several local painting and writing classes, and they are now turning their attention toward the formation of a local vocal ensemble this fall.

This new arts initiative will be called 'sing! a community in harmony'. Funded by LBA and supported by a donation last year from the Rogers/Mailey family, the choir will be led by seasoned professional (and Sea to Sky resident) Monique Creber.

Creber is a singer-songwriter and performance coach who is very active —along with husband Michael Creber and daughter Michelle — in the North Shore's performing community. Monique and Michael founded and direct the Cypress Singers, an adult choir that meets and performs in West Vancouver.

"We are currently working a plan to subsidize this choir and keep fees very manageable for all participants," says Nolin, who encourages residents to come out, even if they think they can't sing. "We want to see this voice ensemble build and create community through song. We are all learning."

All ages six and up are welcome to join the choir.

For residents who are interested in singing along, or might even just be 'choir-curious', a meeting is planned at the Village Hall on June 16 at 7 p.m. This info night will be geared to adults, (including parents) wanting to learn more.

The meeting is an information-only session, with no singing or auditions planned. "This is strictly a learning open house," says Nolin. "It's a chance to ask questions, meet the group and learn together."
