Temperatures soar; beach park no-swimming advisory still in effect

It's a hot one this week! Temperatures in Howe Sound and up the Sea to Sky are expected to soar into the mid-to high 30s and Environment Canada has issued a 'yellow' heat warning as a result.

A reminder that while Lions Bay Beach Park remains off-limits for swimming due to high E. coli counts, both Kelvin Grove and Brunswick Beaches are safe for a dip to relieve the heat.

Other ways to protect yourself from the heat include: staying hydrated, blocking the sun by closing awnings, curtains or blinds during the day and opening your windows at night to let cooler air into your home.

Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which include headache, nausea, dizziness or rapid breathing and heartbeat. When outdoors, seek out shade when possible, or bring your own by carrying an umbrella or parasol.

As of this morning 87 fires are burning across the province. Here in the Coastal Fire District, crews are fighting 18 wildfires: six of them are rated 'Out of Control' and the rest are being held or under control. The air quality index is at low risk today, but smokier skies are expected as the week progresses.
