Taxes due, don't forget your HOG, beach still not safe for swimming

On July 14 in 1789, a group of unhappy Frenchmen (and women) successfully laid siege to a local prison known as the Bastille, showing their generally negligent king and queen the door and ushering in republican rule for the country.
Sadly, they didn't defeat the concept of property taxes, including the municipal variety, which, here in Lions Bay, are due today.
The moral of this story is: don't lose your head and forget to pay your taxes! You can pay online through your bank, or even through the Village website with your credit card, but if you prefer to hand over the money* in person, office hours run until 4 p.m. this afternoon.
Prior to paying, make sure you apply online for your Home Owner Grant (HOG), which can save you a few bucks.
*The Village Office doesn't take cash any more, so bring your credit card or dust off that cheque book.
Fecal Coliform Numbers Up Again

As reported last week, Lions Bay Beach is one of two beaches currently in the Lower Mainland under a Red advisory, meaning it is not currently safe to swim or wade.
(The other beach is Trout Lake in East Vancouver).
Counts are very low at both Brunswick and Kelvin Grove beaches, so for the time being, consider parking your beach towels there instead.
The actual figures (number of bacteria present per 100 ml, averaged over the last five samples) for Lions Bay Beaches are:
Brunswick Beach 8 July 10, 2025
Kelvin Grove Beach 7 July 10, 2025
Lions Bay Beach 270 July 11, 2025
The figure of 270/100 ml is up from the 203/100 ml average reported last week.
