Structure and Car Blazes Both Under Investigation

There are no definitive answers yet as to the cause of the early morning fire that gutted a home at 100 Kelvin Grove Way on Sunday.

Lions Bay Fire Chief Lorenzo De Arcangelis released the following statement this morning:

"At approximately 4:10 a.m. on July 19, 2026, Lions Bay Fire Rescue (LBFR) responded to a reported residential structure fire on Kelvin Grove Way in Lions Bay.

Lions Bay Fire crews initiated suppression operations, and under the existing mutual aid agreement, West Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services (WVFR) responded to assist with fire suppression and exposure protection.

The fire was contained to the structure of origin, and neighbouring homes were not affected.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters. At this time, Lions Bay Fire Rescue remains on scene conducting fire watch operations and monitoring the structure.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No further information is available for release at this time."

WVFR Chief Gordon Howard told The Watershed that his department assisted in the effort, and commended LBFR for their "excellent effort at preventing exposure"; keeping the fire away from nearby homes and buildings.

While still fighting the house fire in Lions Bay, WVFR was also called to attend a vehicle left abandoned and burning at the entrance to Ocean Point Drive, located about two kilometres south of the Village on Highway 99.

Howard said the WVFR Duty Chief attended the car fire and spoke to the RCMP, but by that time the fire was out and their assistance was not needed.

Squamish RCMP Constable Sarwari confirmed that police attended both fires. He said today that the incidents are under investigation, and that a statement regarding the fires is expected this week.
