Raise a Glass to January's Coastal Canine

Jones is One Very Good Boy

Meet Jones, who is four years old and (probably) a Shepherd Husky cross.

This handsome fella has come a long way from his birthplace under a shed in icy-cold Manitoba in January 2022.

Back then, his name was Manhattan. Since they were born around New Year's Day, he and his litter-mates were all (temporarily) named for cocktails.

He and his mama, along with eight siblings (then known as Bellini, Julep, Martini and so on) arrived to live with their foster family in Lions Bay, en masse, at two and a half weeks old.

Happily, all the puppies were successfully adopted, with one of his sibs even living nearby in the Village. Since his humans liked sci-fi, Jones was ultimately named after the cat in the movie Alien.

His family says that Jones is the friendliest and happiest rescue dog they have ever had, possibly because he has known only kindness since he was very tiny.

Jones's favourite foods are apples and cucumbers, and he loves to go on walks, especially along the Erin Moore Trail in the company of other dogs. He adores his squeaky toys, along with chasing the live version (squirrels), sticking his head out the car window on the highway, and swimming. Also sticks — the bigger, the better!

He also loves playing with humans, including "Hide and Seek", where he will happily sit with a tea-towel on his head to cover his eyes while a toy is hidden for him to retrieve. His humans say his vocabulary is impressive, though he sometimes forgets to listen if there are interesting dogs or people around.

Let's raise a toast to this Very Good Boy!
