BC Highway cop catches driver near Lions Bay

A 21-year-old Burnaby driver was caught travelling 194 km/hr in a stretch of the Sea to Sky near Lions Bay that is posted at 80.
According to a media release from the BC Highway Patrol, an officer clocked the young driver in his blue BMW M3 coupe just before 11 p.m. on July 17 .
The motorcycle cop impounded the vehicle and presented the driver with:
A ticket for excessive speed (more than 60 km/h) with a fine of $483 under Section 148(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act;
A seven-day impound;
The bill for the tow, the impound and any subsequent ICBC licensing and insurance penalties.
BC Highway Patrol Corporal Michael McLaughlin said that in a high number of fatalities in recent weeks on BC highways, too much speed is almost always a factor.
"Our officers would much rather give you a ticket, tow and impound rather than have to tell your family that you’re not coming home," McLaughlin said.
