July's Coastal Canine lived up to his name

The day Tyr came home to live with his family, they took one look at his handsome fur and noble profile, and named him for the Icelandic God of War.
Never has a dog so lived up to his name.
As a puppy, he was a crazy white ball of energy; reactive, demanding and destructive, and yet somehow still totally loveable. The years mellowed him a little, but only a little. Many of his neighbours only caught a glimpse of him occasionally, usually when he was sitting out of sight behind a handy parked car, awaiting a treat for not barking as they walked by.
Tyr was an expert at garnering negative attention. He knew how to open doors, howl along with sirens and try to bite paragliders out of the sky. He would complain loudly when anyone had the nerve to pick up a phone, and punch the caller repeatedly until they had the sense to ring off.
But his favourite trick was to steal something he absolutely should not have, and take it to his 'bad boy' spot on the stair landing, where he would wait patiently to be bribed to release the item when he was ready.
These items over the years included steak knives, rocks from the garden, bottles, socks, dead birds and small mammals, vials of medication, shoes and even broken glass. This last he would clink gently against his teeth as a reminder that speed was of the essence.
Tyr turned nine on Canada Day, and then last week, his family unexpectedly, shockingly, had to say goodbye.
In the suddenly strangely quiet house, his brother Puck and the rest of his family miss him more than words can say.
Still, no one who knew Tyr has any doubt that he has kicked down the doors at Valhalla and settled himself in the comfiest chair with the best view.
And probably a knife in his teeth.
