A GoFundMe has been launched in support of the family whose young son was killed in a tragic bus accident in Horseshoe Bay last week.

Silvana de Oliveira Schramm was walking with a friend and pushing her four-year old son Leonardo Mochada in a stroller when the three were struck and pinned under a bus near the ferry terminal around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The group had just returned to Horseshoe Bay after a visit to Bowen Island.

Leonardo was pronounced dead at the scene, and Silvana remains in intensive care at Lions Gate Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The family friend who was also injured has been released from hospital.

Friends and colleagues of Silvana's husband Clineau Mochada launched the fundraiser over the weekend to help the family with the costs of Leonardo's funeral and Silvana's recovery. The family are Canadian citizens, originally hailing from Brazil.

The fundraiser indicates donations will be used to cover funeral and transportation costs for the family, as well as ongoing medical and rehabilitative care for Silvana.
