Thinking Local on Giving Tuesday

RAVEN Trust and other groups can use your help

ree

Who will you help on Giving Tuesday?

As a respite to the intense lobbying for consumer dollars on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a way to offer support for those organizations that may have been trampled in the flurry of pre-holiday spending.

Spending your money in British Columbia is a way to support both the economy and local small businesses at a time when many need a helping hand.

Here are some local organizations that can benefit from your support:

  • RAVEN Trust has a group of fundraisers who are matching all donations to the organization, up to $22,000. The money will go to support the legal case launched in 2024 by the Grassy Narrows First Nation, who are suing the government to establish environmental protections against the mercury poisoning and logging that have ravaged their northwestern Ontario community.

  • Donations to Foodbanks Canada on Giving Tuesday will also be doubled by their fundraising partners. Locally, you can donate directly to the Squamish Food Bank via Under One Roof. (A reminder that The Watershed can swing by your house to collect any physical donations of food or warm clothing you have for the Squamish Food Bank. We are happy to save you the drive up the highway and take whatever donations you have to share. A list of welcome items can be found HERE).

  • Whistler's amazing animal shelter WAG (Whistler Animals Galore) is a non-profit charity devoted to animals, and they are always looking for donations. Some of The Watershed's most loveable Coastal Canines found their forever families through WAG, and you can support them HERE.

  • BC and Alberta Guide Dogs train service animals for people in need. This Delta, BC-based organization trains puppies to become certified guide dogs, as well as autism and service dogs, and you can donate to help offset the costs of the training HERE.
